What do you have to do when you are spending somedays in Valencia? Cycling of course! Because even in the warmth of the Spanish summer this is an activity that cannot be missed. Through a bike tour, you cycle, within a few hours, past the great highlights of Valencia. Entirely smart to do this at the start of your trip, so that you can rentthe bike afterward and discover the city on your own.
Valencia cycling city
The Spanish city of Valencia is great to discover by bike. It is the third-largest city in Spain, after Barcelona and Madrid and it is an ideal city to cycle through. Some parts are quite far apart in the city, which makes it easier to go by bike instead of walking. There are cycle paths almost everywhere, 160 km in total, so you don’t have to cycle along the busy roads between cars.
It is great to discover the entire Turia park, which is 9 kilometers long, by bike. Thanks to a large number of trees, you can cycle through the shadow in many places. In the meanwhile, you can cool off in the shade with a refreshing drink or a beer on the terrace of one of the cafés in the middle of the park.
Other great places to cycle through are the different neighborhoods in Valencia. Go through the beautiful streets of the historical city centerand view the largest market hall, Mercado Central, which can be found in front of la Lonja (a former silk exchange) which is the only World Heritage Site building in the city and a must-see place.
Continue towards Ruzafa, the trendy neighborhood where you can literally sit on a terrace on every corner of the street. If you head towards the beach, you will pass the Cabanyal district, where the colorful fishermen’s houses are not to be missed.
In any case, it is a wonderful option to cycle to the beach for a refreshing dip in the sea. It is a beautiful route for cycling, where you can view the port of Valencia, with the former art nouveau docks and the America Cup port, where the prestigious sailing event was hosted in 2007 and 2010 and transformed the seafront of the city. When you want to lay down on the beach, don’t be put off by the crowds, because the beach is long and wide, so you can always find a place to relax.
